YKTA, a joint venture of Japanese auto parts makers Y-tec, Keylex and Toyotetsu, said it would build a $220 million plant on the Mazda Toyota Manufacturing U.S.A. site in Limestone County, Alabama, near Huntsville. The plant will make stamped and welded body parts for the Mazda-Toyota plant and employ 650 people. The ownership split among the three companies was not stated.
Why it matters
Placing the plant on the carmakers' own site lets the suppliers deliver large body parts directly to the assembly line.
