Yamaha turned its Silicon Valley office into Yamaha Music Innovations, LLC, a wholly owned company for business development, and set up Yamaha Music Innovations Fund I, a $50 million corporate venture fund that the company manages. Yamaha announced the plan in December 2024 and confirmed the fund's size in May 2025.
Why it matters
Music and audio are being reshaped by AI and software. A fund run from Silicon Valley lets Yamaha find startups that could feed its instruments and audio products, and the step from a liaison office to a company shows a growing US commitment.
Who runs it
Yamaha Music Innovations is led by president and CEO Yusuke Sugino. For the fund, Yamaha hired Andrew Kahn as managing partner; Billboard has listed him among the top investors in future music technology. The fund also brought in investors with strong Silicon Valley networks.
Early results
In its first six months, the Silicon Valley office signed partnership deals with three US companies. The fund looks at startups across the music business and in fields next to it where Yamaha's sound and music know-how can help, not only instruments and audio gear.
