Yamaha's US unit Yamaha Guitar Group bought all of Cordoba Music Group, maker of Córdoba nylon-string guitars and ukuleles and Guild acoustic and electric guitars. Yamaha put the price at about ¥5.1 billion. About Córdoba Tim Miklaucic founded Córdoba Guitars in 1997 to bring the nylon-string guitar to more players, with luthiers drawing on classic Spanish methods. The group added Guild, a guitar brand dating to 1953, in 2014, then HumiCase cases and DeArmond pickups, and distributes Savarez and Aquila strings in the US. What Yamaha gains Yamaha Guitar Group is based in Calabasas, California. Córdoba adds ukuleles, acoustic bass guitars, pickups, cases and strings, as well as skilled premium guitar making in the US. Group president Joe Bentivegna said Yamaha was honored to take on the next phase of these brands.
