At the opening of its roughly $14 billion battery plant in North Carolina, Toyota said it would invest up to $10 billion more in its US operations over the next five years. That would bring its cumulative US investment to nearly $60 billion. The pledge followed President Trump's remarks during his Asia trip that Toyota would expand in the US. Where the money has gone A week after the pledge, Toyota put $912 million into five plants to make more hybrids, adding 252 jobs. The largest share, $453 million, went to the Buffalo, West Virginia plant for hybrid engines and transaxles; $125 million went to Mississippi to build the first hybrid Corollas made in the US. In March 2026 it added $1 billion: $800 million for Kentucky, for a second battery-electric model and more Camry and RAV4 output, and $200 million for Indiana's Grand Highlander line. Toyota in the US Toyota has about 48,000 direct employees in the US and 11 manufacturing plants. The North Carolina battery plant where it made the pledge is its newest.
