Toyota said it would invest $749 million in five US plants and add 586 jobs. The money is split among Alabama ($288 million), Kentucky ($238 million), West Virginia ($111 million), Missouri ($62 million) and Tennessee ($50 million). The spending is part of Toyota's pledge of nearly $13 billion in US investment over the five years from 2017 to 2021.
Why it matters
The $13 billion figure is a five-year total rather than new spending, but the announcement put concrete projects behind it. It came while the US was weighing tariffs on imported cars.
