Takara Tomy's US arm, TOMY International, bought Fat Brain Holdings, a Nebraska maker and online seller of educational toys, games and gifts, for $41 million in cash. Fat Brain was started in 2002 by a husband and wife and sells largely through its own website. About Fat Brain Fat Brain Holdings owns two companies: Fat Brain Toys, an online toy and game retailer, and Fat Brain Toy Co., which makes and wholesales toys. It had sales of about ¥4.33 billion and was roughly at break-even, with an operating loss of about ¥10 million. Bad timing at home The deal closed while the pandemic was hurting Takara Tomy's results: its sales for April to September 2020 fell 24% and its operating profit fell 68%.
