Shibaura Machine agreed through its US subsidiary to acquire all of Moore Nanotechnology Systems, a New Hampshire maker of ultra-precision machine tools for optical and reflective parts. Moore has installed more than 1,000 machines in over 30 countries, serving optics, aerospace, defense, medical and automotive customers. Shibaura plans to sell its grinding machines through Moore's North American and European network and share development resources. The deal Shibaura Machine's board approved the purchase on May 18, 2026. The roughly $150 million figure is an enterprise value; the company said the final price will move with the debt and cash on Moore's books at the closing date. Shibaura is buying 100% of the equity interests in Moore Nanotechnology Systems, LLC through its US subsidiary. Covington & Burling advised Shibaura. Moore was advised by Houlihan Lokey as financial adviser and DLA Piper as legal counsel. About Moore Nanotechnology Moore Nanotechnology (Nanotech) was founded nearly 30 years ago by Len Chaloux and Newman Marsilius III as a standalone subsidiary of Moore Tool Company. Before the deal it was privately held; co-owner Newman Marsilius IV and CEO Mark Boomgarden were quoted in the announcement. According to the Japanese disclosure as reported by M&A Online, Moore had sales of ¥5.64 billion and an operating loss of ¥671 million in the year to December 2025, with net assets of ¥8.17 billion. On those figures the enterprise value is a little over four times annual sales. Strategy Shibaura frames the deal as part of the business portfolio shift under its "Mid-Term Plan 2026". In its machine tool segment, the ultra-precision machine business has been trying to grow outside China, in North America and Europe. Shibaura plans to sell its ultra-precision grinding machines through Moore's sales and service network and to expand its technical center functions in the US. The purchase follows other recent deals by Shibaura. It bought 80% of German injection molding machine maker LWB Steinl in a deal completed on November 28, 2025, and acquired Pocca Machine in 2024. Approvals and timeline Closing depends on regulatory approvals and other conditions. Houlihan Lokey said the deal was expected to close in the third quarter of 2026, while Shibaura's disclosure gave the second half of 2026. No completion announcement was found as of October 17, 2026.
