Pharmavite, the California maker of Nature Made vitamins owned by Otsuka Holdings, acquired Bonafide Health for $425 million. Bonafide, founded in 2017, sells non-hormonal products for menopause and other women's health needs.
Why it matters
Women's health is one of the fastest-growing supplement categories, and the deal gives Otsuka's U.S. arm a leading brand alongside its own equol and urinary-health products.
About Bonafide
Bonafide is based in Harrison, New York, and led by co-founder Michael Satow. Its brands include Revaree, Relizen and Ristela, for problems such as hot flashes and vaginal dryness. The products are free of drugs and hormones, and the company says they are backed by dozens of clinical studies and recommended by more than 14,000 health professionals.
Pharmavite's lineup
Pharmavite, based in West Hills, California, is owned by Otsuka Pharmaceutical. Besides Nature Made, it owns Equelle, a menopause supplement made with S-equol, the urinary health brand Uqora and MegaFood. Chief executive Jeff Boutelle said the deal makes Pharmavite the leading women's health nutraceutical company in the US.
After the deal
Pharmavite said there would be no job cuts and Bonafide would keep working from Harrison.
