Mitsubishi Power Americas, the US arm of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries' power business, will invest $490 million to expand its Savannah Machinery Works near Pooler, Georgia, Governor Brian Kemp's office said. The plant makes gas-turbine parts. The expansion adds 450,000 square feet, roughly doubling its industrial space, and is expected to create more than 220 jobs in manufacturing, operations and technician roles.
Why it matters
Demand for gas turbines has surged as US power use climbs with AI data centers, and makers are racing to add capacity. Savannah's economic development agency called it Mitsubishi Power's largest investment in the area to date. Governor Kemp said the plan grew out of his meetings with the company in Tokyo.
About Mitsubishi Power
The brand sells gas, steam and aero-derivative turbines, geothermal systems and emissions controls, plus services, including AI tools that help run power plants on their own.
A long Georgia history
Georgia's economic development commissioner, Pat Wilson, noted that Mitsubishi Power first chose the state at the height of the recession. He said the ports, rail lines, highways and airports were a reason it kept investing there.
What the company said
Bill Newsom, chief executive of Mitsubishi Power Americas, said meeting rising power demand will take investment in plants, suppliers and workers. Savannah officials said the project was highly competitive and that a groundbreaking would follow.
