Mitsubishi Corporation decided to create MC Americas Resources, a New York company that will invest in metals resources in North America. It will have up to $600 million in capital from Mitsubishi's US arm. The filing came a month after Mitsubishi agreed to pay $600 million for 30% of Hudbay Minerals' Copper World copper project in Arizona. MC Americas Resources became the holder of that stake when the deal closed in January 2026. How the $600 million is paid Under the August 2025 agreement, Mitsubishi paid about $420 million in cash into Copper World LLC when the deal closed on January 12, 2026. Hudbay said that money pays for the remaining feasibility work and early project costs. The other $180 million is due within 18 months, and Mitsubishi also pays 30% of future construction funding. Next step Hudbay calls Mitsubishi a partner in five of the world's 20 largest copper mines, and the two said they would look for more projects together. In October 2026 they made the final decision to build the mine.
