Misumi's US holding company will set up two new Delaware entities. KIBAN, LLC, with $40 million of funding, will build a manufacturing platform for 'frontier technology' industries, handling precision machining through inspection, packing and supply chain management. MISUMI Venture Capital Fund I will invest up to $50 million in startups in frontier hardware, robotics and industrial AI. Reports of the plan come from Japanese business media; we have not seen Misumi's own release.
Why it matters
These follow Misumi's $350 million Fictiv deal and its roughly $1 billion Americas plan announced in June 2026. Misumi is building a full US stack: an online parts marketplace, its own machining capacity and an investment arm aimed at robotics and defense-tech customers.
Owning the machines
KIBAN takes the opposite route to Fictiv, which Misumi bought in 2025. Fictiv arranges machining at other companies' shops; KIBAN will own its machining, inspection and packing in one North American site. It is led by David Evans, Fictiv's co-founder.
The fund
MISUMI Venture Capital Fund I has a general partner, MVC Fund I GP, also owned by Misumi's US holding company. Because its investments could reach a tenth of the parent's capital, Misumi filed it as a change in a large subsidiary.
