Marubeni bought Creekstone Farms Premium Beef, a beef processor in Arkansas City, Kansas, from private equity firm Sun Capital. The parties did not disclose terms; media reports put the price at about $170 million including debt. The deal also included Rangers Valley, an Australian cattle business.
Why it matters
The deal gives Marubeni its own US beef processing to supply premium beef to Japan and other Asian markets.
