Kurita Water Industries agreed to buy Avista Technologies Inc. of California and its UK sister company for about ¥9.2 billion in total. Avista makes chemicals for reverse-osmosis membranes used in water treatment. The US company is the larger of the two, with sales of ¥2.58 billion against ¥0.63 billion for the UK company. The value comes from Kurita's Japanese disclosure.
Why it matters
It was Kurita's second US water-related acquisition of 2019, after U.S. Water Services in February. It added a specialty chemicals line for membrane-based water treatment.
