Kubota planned three new US plants for about ¥20 billion in total, according to a Japan Times report quoted by Rural Lifestyle Dealer. Up to ¥10 billion was to go to a compact construction machinery plant in the Midwest, and about ¥5 billion each to engine and utility-vehicle plants in Georgia. The engine plant would be Kubota's first engine production in the US.
Why it matters
Making engines and machines locally would shorten Kubota's supply lines in its largest overseas market and reduce its exposure to currency swings and trade measures.
