Kikkoman is investing about $560 million over 10 years in a new plant in Jefferson, Wisconsin, about 60 km north of its first US plant in Walworth. The 240,000-square-foot plant on a 100-acre site makes soy sauce, teriyaki sauce and other seasonings for stores, restaurants and food makers. Construction started in April 2024, and the plant opened in September 2026 with more than 80 new jobs expected. Kikkoman in America Kikkoman set up its US manufacturing arm, Kikkoman Foods, in March 1972 and began shipping soy sauce from Walworth in June 1973. It opened a second US plant in Folsom, California, in 1998. Jefferson is its third US plant and the group's ninth soy sauce plant outside Japan. Why Jefferson Kikkoman pointed to good access to customers, skilled workers, a central location for buying soybeans and wheat, and plenty of pure water, which matters for brewing soy sauce. The plant is part of its long-term plan, Global Vision 2030. Opening At the opening, chairman Yuzaburo Mogi called Jefferson "the natural next chapter." The plant's flexible layout lets it handle many products, thicknesses and package types.
