Kaneka's US holding company agreed to buy all shares of Applied Poleramic, a Benicia, California maker of advanced resins used in aircraft composites, for about $15 million. Kaneka already sold films and resin additives to the same aerospace customers. About Applied Poleramic Applied Poleramic was founded in 1992 in Benicia, near San Francisco, and was led by president Brian S. Hayes. Its formulated resins go into high-performance composites for engines, the hottest parts of aircraft, and rockets. Such composites are lighter for their strength than metals and stand up better to heat. What came next The business became Kaneka Aerospace LLC in September 2017. In early 2018 Kaneka Aerospace bought Henkel's benzoxazine-based composites business, which made prepregs, film adhesives and infusion resins, for an undisclosed sum.
