Honda said it would spend $700 million to retool its Marysville, East Liberty and Anna plants for EV production. It also named Fayette County, Ohio, as the site of its $3.5 billion battery plant with LG Energy Solution. The plans add about 2,500 jobs. Battery module production was targeted for 2025. How the hub fits together Workers at the Anna Engine Plant were to make the battery cases. These would be joined with battery modules from the Fayette County plant on a new sub-assembly line at Marysville, and the finished packs would go into EVs built at Marysville and East Liberty. The battery plant, at Interstate 71 and U.S. Route 35, accounts for about 2,200 of the new jobs and Honda's own plants for 327. Honda's Ohio roots The news came 45 years to the day after Honda's leaders visited the Ohio Statehouse in 1977 to announce the Marysville motorcycle plant, its first US factory. Marysville built the first US-made Accord in 1982, Anna opened in 1985 and East Liberty in 1989. At the time, Honda aimed to build about 800,000 EVs a year in North America by 2030.
