Fast Retailing raised its funding of Fast Retailing USA Technologies, through a US subsidiary, from a token $1 to $100 million. The unit's job is to gain cutting-edge technology know-how and expertise to improve customers' shopping experience. The new total made it a 'specified subsidiary' under Japanese rules.
Why it matters
Uniqlo is opening many more US stores, and its playbook depends on data, inventory and digital tools. Putting $100 million into a US tech unit shows it wants to build that capability where the engineers are, not only in Tokyo.
About the unit
Fast Retailing USA Technologies was set up in Delaware in June 2024 and is held through Fast Retailing USA. Its CEO is Takeshi Okazaki, Fast Retailing's chief financial officer, and three executives serve at both the parent and the unit. Besides gaining know-how, it can invest and provide services that Fast Retailing can use in its own business.
Small effect on results
Fast Retailing said the step would have only a minor effect on group results.
