Denso said it would invest $1 billion in its manufacturing campus in Maryville, Tennessee, and add about 1,000 production and support jobs, including technicians and engineers. Several production lines will be expanded to make safety, connectivity and electrification products for hybrid and electric vehicles.
Why it matters
The investment shifts the Maryville site toward parts for electrified and connected cars, as carmakers move to hybrids and electric vehicles.
What the money buys
Denso said the expansion would add production lines for advanced safety systems, connectivity products and electrification parts for hybrid and electric vehicles. The new jobs include production workers, technicians and engineers.
Earlier investment in Maryville
The $1 billion came on top of a $400 million investment in Maryville that Denso announced in 2015, which added 500 jobs and consolidated warehouse operations into one central site. Denso broke ground on that project in July 2016.
