Aisin AW, Toyota's main transmission supplier, said its new subsidiary AW Texas would build an automatic-transmission plant in Cibolo, Texas, investing up to $400 million and employing about 900 people by 2023. The plant will supply Toyota's truck plant in San Antonio. Aisin's release is dated September 18, while a congressional release came on September 17.
Why it matters
Building transmissions near the truck plant shortens the supply chain for one of Toyota's highest-volume US models.
